Howard County: Weinstein Loses by 2 Votes

In a night of razor-close election results, an absolute monster upset is coming out of Howard County, as it appears that county councilman Jon Weinstein has been defeated in the Democratic primary by attorney Liz Walsh. The margin of victory? Two (2) votes. And some people still say your votes don’t matter.

Weinstein took office in this Ellicott City-based seat after the November 2014 elections, and has been county councilman through both of Ellicott City’s devastating floods. Walsh had focused her campaign on irresponsible development, which came to light especially after the second flood. This message resonated strongly, and helped her come within 50 votes after Election Day.

When the absentee and provisional votes were counted on Friday, Walsh took a two-vote lead. The results were certified Friday evening. Weinstein has said he plans to ask for a recount.
